Seminar Organized by LEF in Lahore on topic of "Stop violence Against Women in Brick Kiln Industry"

In connection with 16 days of activism for violence against women, LEF organised a seminar on topic of stop violence against women in brick kiln industry today in Lahore. More than 250 brick kiln workers from Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Nankana Sahib and Toba Tek Singh districts. Speakers included Fouzia Waqar chairperson Punjab Commission on the Status of Women, members Punjab Provincial Assembly Dr. Nosheen Hamid and Raheela Khadim Hussain, Khurshid Ahmed general secretary All Pakistan Workers Confederation, Mehmood Butt general secretary Pakistan Bhatta Mazdoor Union, Rubina Jamil president All Pakistan Workers Confederation, Ume Laila executive director Home Net Pakistan, Mumtaz Mughal of Aurat Foundation, Amir Sohail general secretary Punjab Union of Journalists and Muhammad Shahid deputy director Labour Department Punjab. Brick kiln women workers also spoke on the occasion and said that they are facing torture in many kinds, from families and from employers as well. They are subject to different kind violence which include economic, physical and social. It was demanded that all workers in brick kiln industry should be protected under labour laws and women and all should be registered under social protection schemes. Government should spend more resources on better implementation of labour laws in the brick kiln industry. Employers responsible if violence against women should be put behind bars. 
LEF will continue to support trade unions organising workers and supporting them for protection against violence.
