On 28-29th May 2011, Labour Education Foundation organized a two day training workshop in Hyderabad. The workshop aimed at providing training to representatives and workers especially related to Bangles Industry. Women Bangle Workers Union Hyderabad’s representatives and workers participated in the training. LEF’s Coordinator Sherbaz, Project Cordinator Mushtaq Ali Shan, Director LEF Khalid Mehmood, Irfana Abdul Jabbar and Nasir Mehmood conducted different sessions. Topics covered during the workshop were about unionization, its benefits and hurdles, importance of leadership: its importance, types and merits, Home Workers convention and National Policy for Home Based Women Worker’s and responsibilities of Social support institutions such as EOBI and Sindh Social Security.

 

Feroze Park lies in Feroze Pur Road Youhana Abad F, Block. It has 128 houses out of which 10- 15 are vacant plots. In October 2009 after a long struggle by Labour Community Organization (LCO) government provided the area with electric booths. A Feroze Park Committee was formed later and it helped in provision of sewage and PC (concrete) roads. LEF’s Labour Community Organization is quite active on this area. It solves the problems of the area by its own initiative.

 

FIA Gujranwala arrested two brick kiln representatives accusing them as Human smugglers. Bhatta owners threatened them that if they remain associated with Bhatta Union they will be arrested. FIA in liaison with Bhatta owners filed a false case alleging them of human smugglers.

Pakistan Bhatta Mazdoor Union leaders contacted court for the bale of these two people. But senior Judge disapproved it. Later the bale was filed in High Court where the case lasted for three months. Finally, after struggle by union bale was granted on 5th June 2011.
